What this book actually is

This is an interactive problem-solving program presented as a complete digital book. Its pages explain what to do at each stage of a Rakuten genre and tag placement problem; its private Placement Command Center lets you enter your own products, genres, tags and dates once, personalize any of the 200 prompts, and copy the result into the AI tool you prefer.

You can request the traditional PDF edition by email, return to your saved work, and reuse the same details at every stage. The aim is not passive reading. It is a repeatable route from “my listings are hard to find” to a clear, honest plan that fixes the real cause.

The book is written by Sabbir Mahmud Srabon and published by The Prompt Powerhouse. Its prompts were designed and tested by a team of expert engineers who build prompt systems for online sellers.

Who it is built for

Rakuten Ichiba sellers whose products seem to sit where shoppers do not look: shop owners, merchandisers, small brands and agencies that manage a catalog in Rakuten Merchant Server (RMS), the shop-management system Rakuten provides to its Ichiba merchants. It also suits sellers who have just launched a product, restructured a catalog, or noticed that visits dropped after a change, and teams who are handing catalog work to new people.

Best fit: a seller who can open their own RMS account, look at a product’s genre and tags, and is willing to be factual about what is actually listed. The book does not promise that any listing will rank, gain traffic or sell. Rakuten alone decides how its search works, and no book or service can promise otherwise.

The problem it solves

A Rakuten listing lives in a genre, a position in the structure Rakuten uses to organize its marketplace, and carries tags that describe it. Rakuten publishes that genre structure through its Genre Search API, where genres are looked up by Genre ID starting from the root. When a product is placed in an unsuitable genre, or its tags are thin, inconsistent or out of date, shoppers who browse or filter by genre may never meet it. The hard part is finding which product, in which genre, with which tags, changed the picture.

Our free guides explain the mechanics: start with how Rakuten genre and tag structure works, then diagnose your own shop. The book turns that thinking into 200 ready prompts.

The problem map: 20 categories in five stages

The categories run in the order most sellers need them.

  1. Diagnose: Diagnosing Genre Misclassification; Genre-Level Ranking Benchmarking; Competitive Genre Saturation Analysis.
  2. Place: New-Product Genre Placement Decision Process; Broad vs. Niche Genre Placement Tradeoffs; Cross-Listing a Product in Multiple Eligible Genres; Genre Placement Strategy for a Brand-New Product Category.
  3. Tag: Tag-Selection Strategy for Cross-Genre Discoverability; Seasonal Tag Optimization; Multi-Variant Product Genre/Tag Consistency; Genre-Specific Keyword-to-Tag Alignment; Tag Depth vs. Tag Relevance Tradeoffs; Tag-Driven Bundle/Set Discoverability.
  4. Recover: Auditing Placement After a Taxonomy Update; Fixing a Sudden Ranking Drop Within a Genre; Recovering Visibility After a Genre Reclassification Penalty.
  5. Scale: Using Item-Ranking Data to Guide Merchandising; Genre Ranking Seasonality Patterns; Using Genre Search API Data for Assortment Planning; Auditing Full Catalog for Tag/Genre Drift Over Time.
10 prompts per category

Every category holds ten prompts, 200 in total.

Your details are saved in your own browser so you can return as your catalog changes. The full walkthrough is in Genre and tag workspace personalization, and the ordered route is in the genre and tag optimization workflow.
