What this book actually is
This is an interactive problem-solving program presented as a complete digital book. It contains 220 prompts in 22 categories, each written in your own first-person voice so you can paste it into an AI assistant and get a checklist, a diagnosis, a test plan or a customer message. The Subscriptions Command Center lets you enter your store’s facts once (plugin versions, gateway, plan names, renewal dates, error text) and reuse them across every prompt.
In WooCommerce terms, a subscription is a recurring billing relationship created by the WooCommerce Subscriptions extension, and a membership is an access plan created by the WooCommerce Memberships extension that decides who can see which content, products or discounts. They are separate extensions that are designed to work together, and most of the expensive problems appear where they meet: a renewal succeeds but the member loses access, or a payment fails and the member keeps access for weeks.
Who it is built for
It is written for store owners, operators and the freelancers who look after their stores: people who sell courses, boxes, software, clubs, communities or services on a recurring basis with WooCommerce, and who have to keep that machinery working through plugin updates, gateway changes, host moves and checkout changes. You do not need to write code. Where a step needs a developer, the prompt says so and helps you write a clear brief.
If you have never run a renewal test, the book starts there. If you already have thousands of subscribers and a messy history, it helps you audit what you have before you change anything.

How the Subscriptions Command Center works
Choose the situation closest to yours, enter your store details once, and every prompt that needs them is filled in for you. You copy the personalized prompt in one click, take it to your AI tool, and then check the answer against your own WooCommerce dashboard, order notes and logs. Your details stay saved so you can come back for the next stage. The full walk-through is in the workspace documentation.
Your purchase includes the interactive workspace and the complete digital book, which you can request as a PDF by email.
Where most people should start
- You are about to update WooCommerce, Subscriptions, Memberships or your gateway: read the pre-update compatibility checklist, then use categories 1, 13 and 19.
- A renewal failed or never happened: follow the renewal testing workflow, then categories 2 and 4.
- A paying member cannot see their content: go straight to category 12, then 3 and 9.
- You want to understand the risk first: read why updates put recurring revenue at risk and the staging tests every subscription store needs.
What it will not do
It will not log in to your store, change settings for you or see your data: the prompts help you think, plan and write, and you apply the result yourself. It does not guarantee that a renewal will succeed, that a customer will stay, or that any sales or retention result will follow. It is not legal, tax, security-audit or financial advice, and the section on recurring-billing disclosures (category 22) helps you prepare questions for a qualified adviser rather than replacing one.
Built to stay honest as WooCommerce changes
WooCommerce, Subscriptions, Memberships and your payment gateway are updated on their own schedules, so a book that fixed one version’s behavior would age quickly. The prompts therefore ask you to supply your own versions, settings and error messages, and the guides link to the official documentation. This overview was last reviewed on 5 October 2026 against WooCommerce core 11.1.2. Always confirm the current behavior in the official pages listed below and test on a staging copy with a fresh backup.
Frequently asked questions
Will updating break WooCommerce Subscriptions?
Not necessarily, but an update can change how an extension, your gateway or your theme behaves, and the first sign is often a failed or missing renewal days later. WooCommerce states that Subscriptions generally supports the latest WooCommerce version and the previous one, so version gaps matter. Test on staging first. See the pre-update checklist and the risk article linked on this page.
How do I test subscription renewals?
Use a staging copy of your store with your gateway in its test mode, create a test subscription, trigger the renewal, and then check the order notes, the scheduled actions and the subscription status. WooCommerce publishes a renewal-process guide and a troubleshooting section for scheduled actions. The renewal testing workflow on this site puts the steps in order.
Why did a renewal fail?
A renewal can fail because the payment itself was declined, because the gateway did not support automatic renewals for that payment method, because a scheduled action did not run, or because an update changed something in between. The order notes and logs usually show which family of cause you have.
Why can a paying member not see their content?
Common reasons are that the membership plan is not linked to the product or subscription the customer bought, that the membership status is paused or expired, that a caching layer is serving an old page, or that the content restriction rule does not match what you intended. Category 12 of the book walks through the diagnosis in order.
How do Subscriptions and Memberships work together?
Memberships can grant a plan when a customer buys a product, including a subscription product. According to WooCommerce, the membership status then generally follows the status of the subscription, so a lapsed subscription can pause or end access. Check the Memberships documentation for the exact behavior in your version, and test every status change on staging.
Does this book guarantee that my renewals will succeed or that members will stay?
No. It is an educational guide. Renewals depend on your customers’ payment methods, your gateway and your configuration, and no outcome is guaranteed.
Sources and verification
WooCommerce, its extensions, WordPress and payment gateways change their features, settings and screens from release to release. The statements in this guide reflect what WooCommerce and WordPress published when it was last reviewed on 5 October 2026, against WooCommerce core 11.1.2 (the stable release listed on the WooCommerce developer blog that day), and may change. Subscriptions and Memberships are separate extensions with their own version numbers: check the versions installed on your own site and the current documentation below before you act, and never test changes on a live store without a backup.
Educational guide only. Not legal, tax, security-audit or financial advice. The Prompt Powerhouse is independent of, and not affiliated with or endorsed by, WooCommerce, Automattic or WordPress. No renewal, retention or sales result is guaranteed.
